In its bid to consistently empower young Akwa Ibom entrepreneurs with seed money, the RHAB-YESS Foundation, a not-for-profit and non-political organization, has given the sum of One Million Naira to winners of its online business contest for the months of October and November 2022.

The sponsor of the scheme and Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, gave the seed money to the entrepreneurs on Monday during the RHAB-YESS ‘Meet and Greet’ Session at the Conference Room of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Uyo.

Represented by the Leader of Uruan Legislative Council, Hon. Sunday Bassey, the Speaker, who tasked the winners to make good use of the seed money, maintained that the scheme was his own way of supporting Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Enterprise Development Drive and giving life to the Dakadda Philosophy.

He said part of the aims of the Foundation, which is his brainchild, is to discover, mentor and support young entrepreneurs, indigent students and rural women to financial greatness and self-sustainability.

Rt. Hon. Bassey, who is also the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District in the 2023 elections, further urged the young entrepreneurs to be prudent in their respective pursuits, create opportunities for others, and strive for the best in their endeaviours.

Also speaking, the Deputy Chief Whip of Uruan Legislative Council, Hon. Nsikak Edem, thanked the Speaker for adding life to the Dakadda Philosophy of Governor Udom Emmanuel through the RHAB-YESS programme.

He likens their seed money to the Biblical Talents and appealed to them not to bury the little opportunity given to them by the Speaker.

Earlier in his remarks, the Programme Manager of RHAB-YESS Foundation, Mr. Darlington Udobong, who hinted that “the programme is not restricted to indigenes of Uruan Local Government Area where the Speaker hails from but open to every Akwa Ibom youth,” said the Foundation has supported 101 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), trained 32 Artisans, done several medical outreaches and also given over 383 special supports.

Beneficiaries of the October and November 2022 editions included Utitofon Ekere Akpanudo (N250,000), a Fashion Designer from Etim Ekpo LGA; Uduak Udo (N150,000), a Drycleaner from Etim Ekpo LGA, and Blessing Israel Udo (N100,000), a Petty Trader from Okobo LGA.

Others were Comfort Sam (N250,000), a Fashion Designer from Ibesikpo Asutan LGA; Ikouwem Effiong Umoh (N150,000), a Hair Stylist from Ini LGA, and Ekemini Udo Eshiet (N100,000), a Drycleaner from Essien Udim LGA.

Highpoint of the event, which was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Mr. Charles Iwatt and the Personal Assistant to the Speaker, Mr. Godswill Bassey, was the presentation of Cheques to the winners.
