‘BREAK BARRIERS, CHANGE THE NARRATIVE’ – A’IBOM SPEAKER CHARGES YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has charged young entrepreneurs in the state to “break barriers, change the economic narrative, become solution providers and make remarkable changes in the state through your business ventures.”

The Speaker, who was represented by the Executive Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council, Hon. Iniobong Ekpenyong, gave the charge on Friday during the ‘RHAB-YESS Foundation’s Entrepreneurs Meet and Greet’ session at the Conference Room of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Uyo.

While sharing his personal sojourn and experiences in business to inspire the young entrepreneurs, who were mainly winners of the 23rd, 24th and 25th editions of the RHAB-YESS Foundation programme, the Speaker urged them to be prudent and passionate in their business; start small but think big and grow gradually for sustainability.

Speaking further, he said “Consistency is the hallmark of successful entrepreneurs. This virtue must be inherent in you. You must think outside the box and be creative and innovative always. Have a business name and identity and also know that planning is the key to becoming a successful entrepreneur. So, launch out and grow, knowing that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) drive the world today.”

In his remarks, the Programme Manager, Mr. Darlington Udobong, said “RHAB-YESS Foundation is aimed at discovering, mentoring and supporting young Akwa Ibom entrepreneurs to financial greatness and self sustainability.”

“Being an indigene of Akwa Ibom State remains the only eligibility to the programme. And winners are chosen through an online contest that allows the public to comment (vote) on any video of their choice. The video must capture applicant’s bio data and what he or she does as an entrepreneur,” he explained.

Winners of the 23rd Edition are Peaceline Nse Etuk (N250,000), a Cobbler from Nsit Ibom LGA; Esther Akpan Sunday (N150,000), a Fashion Designer from Eket LGA, and Abasifreke Ubong Etim (100,000), a Computer Repairer from Ibesikpo Asutan LGA.
