ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT: A’IBOM SPEAKER TASKS YOUTHS ON SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTIVITY

Sole sponsor of the foremost RHAB-YESS Foundation’s entrepreneurship support scheme and Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has charged young entrepreneurs in the state to make productivity and sustainability the hallmark of their respective ventures.

The Speaker stated this on Friday during the August and September 2022 editions of the ‘Entrepreneur Meet and Greet’ event at the Conference Room of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Uyo.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Charles Iwatt, the Speaker reiterated his commitment to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Enterprise Development Drive through the RHAB-YESS Foundation, an initiative he launched to support small scale businesses gain financial greatness and self-sustainability.

Rt. Hon. Bassey, who is also the 2023 Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, maintained that the Governor’s success story in entrepreneurship and investments in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are rare feats that must be encouraged.

While appealing to beneficiaries of the RHAB-YESS Foundation to reciprocate the gestures they have enjoyed in the last three years by supporting the PDP in 2023 for bigger benefits, Rt. Hon. Bassey charged beneficiaries of the scheme to be prudent in their respective businesses and also invest the seed money wisely so as to better their lots and create jobs for others.

In his remarks, the Programme Manager, Mr. Darlington Udobong, explained that the scheme is aimed at discovering, mentoring and supporting rural women and young Akwa Ibom entrepreneurs to financial greatness and self-sustainability.

He also explained the rigorous processes involved in selecting winners of the scheme who are drawn from different parts of the state.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Samuel Godwin Effiong, a Fashion Designer from Abak Local Government Area who received N250,000, thanked the Speaker for his magnanimity and appealed to other public office holders to emulate the Speaker and make life easier for the youths.

Other beneficiaries included Bright Unwana John, a law graduate of the University of Uyo who got the sum of N200,000 as Law School Grant; Mmekemekobong Isaac, a Fashion Designer from Etinan Local Government Area, received N250,000; Edifon Michael, a Drycleaner from Ini Local Government Area, received N150,000; Mmeyene Thomas Akpan, a Fashion Designer from Essien Udim Local Government Area, received N100,000, and Michael Asuquo Isang, a Fashion Designer from Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, received N100,000.

While four Secondary School students received N20,000 each, Mr. Gift Akpan Ukpai, a Drycleaner from Ika Local Government Area could not claim his N150,000 prize money.
