Akwa Ibom youths have been urged to take ownership of their future by building compelling personal brands and professional resumes that can stand out in today’s digital economy.
This charge was given by Dr. Eventus Edem, former Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council and Spokesperson of Team Aniekan Bassey, during a session with trainees at the ongoing 4-week Digital Skills and Career Development Training in Uyo.
The capacity-building programme, now an annual event, is a flagship initiative of Senator Aniekan Bassey, who represents Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District. Fully sponsored through his pet project, the RHAB-YESS Foundation, in collaboration with ImpactHER, a globally recognized non-profit organization that empowers African youth and women entrepreneurs, the programme has become a beacon of digital transformation in the district.
In his remarks, Dr. Edem emphasized the urgency for young people to intentionally position themselves for opportunities by leveraging the power of personal branding and digital storytelling.
“In a world that is increasingly digital, your brand and resume are your first impression. Make it compelling, make it unforgettable,” he urged the trainees.
Speaking further, Dr Edem said “With the benevolence of Senator Aniekan Bassey, the RHAB-YESS Foundation is not only nurturing talent but also rewriting the narrative of youth development through entrepreneurship in Akwa Ibom and beyond.”
“As the world shifts rapidly toward a digital future, initiatives like what the RHAB-YESS Foundation is offering have proven that with the right tools, support, and vision, the next generation of Akwa Ibom leaders is ready, not just to participate, but to lead,” he stressed.
With a forward-thinking curriculum that includes Building a Personal Brand, Navigating the World of Work, Job Searching Online, Crafting a Compelling Resume, Using AI for Content Creation, Running Facebook Ads, and Implementing Google Workspace in Business, the training is designed to empower youths with market-relevant skills.
According to Mr. Darlington Udobong, Programme Director of the RHAB-YESS Foundation, the initiative goes beyond just imparting technical know-how.
“This programme is Senator Aniekan Bassey’s long-term investment in the future of our youths,” he said. “It’s about equipping our young people to become problem solvers, innovators, and active contributors to the digital economy.”
He added that the ongoing training is not merely an intervention but a movement, one that is transforming lives and building a community of resilient, digitally-skilled young leaders.
“As the training continues over the coming weeks, expectations remain high that more lives will be touched and transformed, one skill at a time,” Udobong noted.
